Street and Park Litter Bins

Street and park litter bins are an essential part of the furnishing of any public space: freestanding, post-mounted, hooded, concrete and cast iron models, as well as combined litter bins with ashtrays for smoking areas. You will find the same models in our range presented in two ways: here, in the context of urban street furniture and arrangements with other urban furniture, and separately in the waste management section, where segregation and collection servicing are the main priorities.

We select models with regard to the look of the surroundings and the practical aspects of servicing: capacity and the method of emptying by cleansing services.

The placement of bins on site is best planned together with the other furniture, next to benches, bus stops or entrances to public buildings, so that the distance between individual points does not encourage people to leave waste outside the bin. The housing material, whether galvanised steel, powder-coated sheet steel or concrete, is selected to suit the expected footfall and local climatic conditions.

The choice of housing material for a street litter bin affects not only its durability but also how it blends with the rest of the furnishings in a given space: powder-coated galvanised steel goes well with benches and barriers in the same finish, cast iron emphasises the prestigious, often historic character of a park or square, and architectural concrete fits naturally into modern schemes with concrete paving and planters.

The mounting method, whether post-mounted, freestanding or permanently anchored to the ground, should be matched to the character of the location. Post-mounted bins work well along park paths and pedestrian routes, where saving space matters, while freestanding models offer greater flexibility when a square is rearranged or outdoor events are held.

Bin capacity is selected based on the expected pedestrian footfall at a given location and the emptying frequency that cleansing services can provide: a bin that is too small on a busy promenade will overflow by midday, while an oversized model in a quiet corner of a park means unnecessary purchase costs with no real operational benefit.

Integrating bins with other street furniture elements, such as benches, street lamps and planters, makes it possible to create visually coherent seating areas in which every element looks as though it was designed with the others in mind, rather than added at random at a later stage of the project.

Hooded models protect the contents from the build-up of rainwater, which reduces the risk of the bin overflowing during heavy rainfall and makes it easier to keep bins tidy in uncovered locations, for example on open squares or along walking routes without tree cover.

Combined litter bins with ashtrays, which combine a waste bin with an ashtray, work well in smoking areas and at entrances to public buildings, effectively reducing the number of cigarette butts discarded directly on the paving around the entrance.
