Dog waste bins

Dog waste bins are specialised receptacles that help keep dog-walking areas clean — parks, residential green spaces and dog runs.

This type of bin is part of our range of street and park litter bins, together with other receptacles designed for public spaces.

They are often installed together with a bag dispenser, creating a complete dog waste station.

Correct placement of such bins along walking routes has a real impact on the cleanliness of the area — their locations should be planned together with paths and entrances to dog runs, not just at the main park entrance. They are increasingly a standard element of residential estate regulations and a requirement placed on developers at the handover of green areas.

A typical dog waste set consists of the bin itself and a bag dispenser, which can be integrated into the bin or mounted on a separate post beside it. Integrated solutions save space and make it easier to restock bags and empty the bin during a single service round, which can be important where there is a large number of such stations across an estate.

The material should be resistant to moisture and intensive washing, as this type of bin requires more frequent disinfection than standard municipal waste containers. Powder-coated galvanised steel or plastic with a smooth, non-absorbent surface makes it easier to maintain hygiene without the risk of unpleasant odours being absorbed into the material.

Hygiene matters more here than with typical street litter bins — dog waste is a potential source of microbiological contamination, so a properly designed bin should have a tight-fitting lid that limits contact between the contents and the surroundings, as well as access by other animals, such as rodents or birds looking for food.

The placement of such bins is best based on observing the actual routes taken by dog walkers, not only the main park paths — residents often walk their dogs along side paths, by fences or near dog runs, and that is exactly where a bin brings the greatest benefit. Placing stations at regular intervals instead of a single bin at the main entrance genuinely increases the effectiveness of the system and reduces the amount of dog waste left on lawns.

In new residential developments, dog waste bins are increasingly part of the landscaping design agreed at the estate planning stage, rather than added only after complaints from residents. The regulations of many housing associations and cooperatives explicitly refer to the obligation to clean up after pets, and the availability of stations with bags and a bin provides practical support for enforcing these rules.
