120 l waste containers

The Waste containers section also covers smaller capacities, including the 120-litre option described here. A 120-litre container is a popular choice for households, small businesses and service outlets. Its handy size means it can be put out for collection by hand, without a transport trolley. It also works well as an additional container for separating biowaste on smaller properties.

Because they are small and light, 120-litre containers are often chosen by owners of holiday homes and leisure plots, where easy off-season storage matters, along with quick set-up for occasional stays.

An empty standard 120-litre container weighs only a few kilograms. Even an elderly person or someone with limited mobility can easily put it out for collection, using the two wheels at the rear. This is a clear advantage over larger capacities, which take more effort to manoeuvre over uneven ground when fully loaded.

The choice between 120 and 240 litres depends mainly on the number of household members and on how much waste goes to a separate compost bin. Households that compost at home often find the smaller container entirely sufficient for mixed waste.

On leisure plots and at seasonally used holiday homes, the 120-litre capacity is a particularly good fit. It is easy to store under cover over winter and stays fully functional after a period out of use, provided it is made from good-quality, UV-resistant polyethylene. Long exposure to sunlight is often the main reason cheaper plastics become brittle.

On containers of this size, the lid usually closes tightly thanks to side catches. This keeps rain out and makes it harder for animals to get in, which matters in areas where foxes or other wild animals try to pull organic waste out of unclosed containers at night.

The range of capacities, from this smallest option up to much larger containers for residential communities and industrial sites, lets you match the container to your actual needs. There is no need to pay for extra capacity that will not be used in a weekly collection cycle.

Versions with a perforated lid let moisture evaporate and are becoming more popular with home composters. They use the 120-litre container only for the dry fraction, which reduces the risk of rotting and unpleasant odours between collections.
