Metal waste containers

Metal waste containers offer greater mechanical durability and better resistance to damage. They suit locations exposed to intensive use, vandalism or harsh weather, such as industrial sites or high-footfall areas. A sturdy steel construction lasts longer than a plastic container and still fully supports waste separation.

Metal versions often appear in tender specifications that require greater durability, measured in years of service. Under intensive use, the investment in a steel construction pays for itself. They complement our wider range of waste containers, which is also available in plastic versions in a variety of capacities.

When choosing a metal container, look at the sheet thickness and the finish. Hot-dip galvanised steel withstands moisture and road salt much better than sheet steel that has been powder-coated without galvanising first. In coastal municipalities, or where pavements are heavily gritted in winter, galvanising is worth the extra cost. Powder coating applied over the zinc layer, in turn, allows any colour to be chosen, which can matter when matching bins to the existing visual identity of a municipality or company.

In everyday use, metal containers need replacing less often than plastic ones. However, the hinges, handles and transport wheels (where the model has them) need periodic inspection. A rusted hinge can jam the lid long before anyone notices. At technical acceptance, it is therefore worth checking that the moving parts work, not just how the body looks.

Steel also has an environmental benefit: at the end of its service life, a metal container can be recycled in full. For investors who apply sustainability criteria, this can be as important as durability itself. Tender specifications increasingly require bidders to state the share of recycled material in the construction, and steel usually meets this requirement easily.

When choosing a capacity, consider how often the container will be emptied as well as how many people use the location. A smaller container serviced frequently can cost less than a large bin that stands full for several days. For orders covering many locations at once, we can help you choose a consistent set of capacities that takes account of differences in footfall between sites.
