Post-Mounted Street Litter Bins

This model represents one of the subtypes in the Street and Park Litter Bins category. Post-mounted street litter bins are fitted to a fixed, raised frame, which limits animals' access to the inside of the bin and makes it easier to keep the area around the bin clean, as it is lifted above pavement level. They are a popular choice along footpaths, at bus stops and on park paths, where a stable, durable installation matters.

When choosing, pay attention to the mounting height of the bin and how it is fixed to the post: bolted fixings make it easier to replace the bin without dismantling the structure. In municipal tenders, this type of bin is often specified as standard equipment for shared footpaths and cycle paths because of its predictable maintenance cost.

The typical capacity of a post-mounted bin ranges from 20 to 50 litres: large enough to reduce emptying frequency with moderate footfall, yet compact enough not to dominate the surroundings of a pavement or park path visually. An internal bag liner allows the contents to be changed quickly without staff coming into direct contact with the waste.

Some models are fitted with a hood that shields the waste opening from rain, which limits the build-up of water inside the bin and unpleasant odours when there are longer intervals between emptying. This is particularly useful in locations serviced less often, such as less frequented park paths.

The post itself is usually set directly into the ground on a permanent concrete foundation, or bolted to an existing lamp post or lighting column, which helps reduce the number of separate installation points in the urban space. The choice between these solutions depends on local technical conditions and on whether other vertical infrastructure is already planned at the location.

Galvanised, powder-coated steel remains the most commonly chosen material owing to its favourable balance of durability and cost, although aluminium versions are also available, lighter and equally resistant to corrosion. For orders placed by local authorities, it is advisable to agree the required colour scheme in advance, as consistency with existing street furniture is often one of the evaluation criteria in tender procedures.

Access to the inside of the bin for cleaning crews should be checked before ordering: top-opening models are often quicker to service than those requiring a side door to be unlocked, which, with a large number of bins serviced daily on a single cleaning route, has a real impact on the crew's working time.
