Trampolines

Trampolines for gardens and playgrounds encourage physical activity and help children develop motor coordination. We offer above-ground and in-ground models, all certified and fitted with safety nets.

They are a popular choice when playgrounds are being upgraded to focus on active play, as an alternative to traditional static equipment.

The manufacturer recommends regular technical inspections of the trampoline (as with any equipment in our playground range). These should cover the condition of the safety net, the edge mats and the ground fixings. Regular maintenance keeps the equipment safe to use throughout the season.

Above-ground trampolines are installed directly on the ground surface and enclosed by a frame with a safety net. This makes installation simpler and means the equipment can be moved more easily to another location if needed. In-ground versions look neater and remove the risk of falling from the height of the frame. However, they need a suitable excavation and drainage, which increases the cost and time of installation.

The safety net around the jumping mat should be checked regularly for tears and weakened mesh, especially where users come into contact with it most. Manufacturers recommend replacing the net much more often than the mat itself, because the net wears fastest under intensive, daily use on a playground.

As with other playground equipment, the surfacing around a trampoline should absorb impact in case of a fall outside the mat area. Sand, washed gravel or rubber matting of a suitable thickness reduces the risk of injury if a child falls outside the area protected by the side net.

The age group of the users determines the size and height of trampoline to choose. Smaller models with a lower frame suit younger children. Larger models for older users need a correspondingly larger safety zone around the whole structure, and this should be taken into account at the playground layout planning stage.

Regular maintenance includes checking the springs or rubber elements that connect the mat to the frame. This helps to detect material fatigue before a failure occurs during use. These checks should be included in the inspection schedule for the whole playground rather than handled separately from the other equipment.

The colours of the mat and frame components are often chosen to contrast clearly with the surrounding surfacing. This helps both children and carers to see the edges of the safe jumping area quickly, especially at dusk or where the recreational area is poorly lit.
