Metal Drums

In the hazardous waste containers section, alongside plastic versions and jerrycans, you will also find classic metal drums.

Metal drums are traditional, durable containers for storing and transporting chemicals and industrial waste. Their resistance to mechanical damage makes them suitable for demanding storage conditions.

They are standard equipment at industrial sites and hazardous waste collection points.

We offer drums with capacities from 60 to 200 litres, with a closed head or open head, in a painted or galvanised finish depending on the intended use. A sturdy lid with a clamping ring keeps the drum sealed during transport and storage.

The internal coating of the drum is chosen to suit the substance being stored. Powder-coated versions are suitable for most industrial oils and greases, while drums with an additional epoxy lining are used for more chemically aggressive substances, reducing the risk of internal corrosion and extending the life of the drum.

Closed-head drums, without a removable lid, are used mainly for liquids poured through a valved opening. The open-head version with a clamping ring makes it easier to load and unload granular or viscous materials, which are difficult to pump through a narrow filling opening.

In terms of fire safety, metal drums are preferred over plastic ones for storing flammable substances, as they do not melt or deform under high temperatures as quickly as plastics, which gives extra time in an emergency.

Once emptied, metal drums can be reused after proper cleaning and, where necessary, repainting. This approach is popular at sites that want to reduce the cost of buying new packaging while keeping each subsequent batch of material fully safe in storage.

Marking metal drums with pictograms that match the classification of the stored substance is something to consider as early as the ordering stage. Some suppliers offer drums with a factory-applied area for a warning label, which makes it easier to mark them later in line with the product safety data sheet and speeds up stock inspections by the person responsible for safety.

Reusable drums should be checked for leaks at regular intervals, particularly at the welds and around the base. Hairline cracks caused by many years of use can be hard to spot with the naked eye and may lead to a slow leak that only becomes apparent after the next batch of substance has been stored for some time.
