Built-in cabinet bins

Among the solutions in the litter bins category, built-in models are attracting growing interest.
Built-in cabinet bins are a system solution fitted inside kitchen units. They save space and keep things tidy by hiding the bin from view, which is particularly valued in staff rooms and kitchenettes.
They are a practical choice when upgrading office kitchens and staff facilities.
Before buying, carefully check the dimensions of the space under the sink and the type of runners in the existing units, as not every mounting system fits every cabinet. This solution is becoming more popular when companies refurbish staff facilities, where making the most of limited space is a priority.
Built-in systems differ mainly in how they pull out. The simplest models are fixed directly to the cabinet door with angle brackets, while more advanced ones use ball-bearing runners mounted to the base of the carcass, giving a smoother and quieter pull-out even when the containers are full. The second option is better suited to intensive daily use in office kitchens, where the bin is opened and closed many times a day.
Multi-container models with two or three separate inserts make it easier to pre-sort waste where it is produced: one container for general waste, another for packaging and possibly a third for kitchen bio-waste. This increases the share of waste that actually ends up in the correct stream, as no extra step is needed to carry waste to separate bins elsewhere.
Before buying, measure not only the width of the space under the sink but also its depth and height, allowing for any trap or pipework that may obstruct a container of standard dimensions. In older kitchen units, designed without a separation system in mind, a narrow or asymmetric model suited to the unusual pipe layout is sometimes needed.
The container inserts, most often made of plastic resistant to moisture and grease, should be easy to remove and wash, which helps maintain hygiene in food preparation areas. Sturdy side handles on the inserts speed up daily handling, especially in kitchens serving larger teams, where the bin is emptied several times a day.
A quiet, soft-close door on the unit holding the bin is a detail especially appreciated in open-plan offices, where a loud cabinet bang every time someone throws something away can genuinely disturb people working near the kitchenette for most of the day.
